Una collezione di 104 vasi di farmacia in porcellana tipo Richard Ginori prodotta nei primi anni del XX secolo ci permette di conoscere quali fossero le composizioni più vendute al tempo della Grande Guerra, quando i giovani medici e farmacisti erano tutti al fronte. I cartigli a forma di scudo scritti in caratteri romani con contorno tricolore indicano le patologie allora più frequenti e il maggior impiego dei prodotti da banco rispetto a quelli di prescrizione medica.Nelle loro composizioni i farmacisti imitavano le prime specialità che alcuni loro colleghi più intraprendenti avevano lanciato con grande successo grazie a una pubblicità ossessionante, come il Proton del dr. Rocchietta, tonico e ricostituente proposto come la panacea del secolo.
A collection of 104 apothecary jars made out of porcelain produced in the early 20th century allows us to know what the best selling drugs were during the First World War, when most young doctors and pharmacists were at the front. The shield shaped figures, written in Roman letters with tricolor frame, show the most common diseases at the time and the wide use of over the counter drugs.In their own recipes the pharmacists copied the first specialties which some of their collegues had successfully launched thanks to strong advertisement, like the Proton by dr. Rocchietta, a tonic presented as the universal remedy of the century.
