The author examines the first and second edition of the "Codex pharmaceuticus pro nosocomiis..." published in Turin in 1806 and 1811. It takes into consideration both the content of the texts and socio-economic situation that led to their realization. From the scientific point of view, the authors of the "Codex..." produced a remarkable work, modern and in many respects ahead of its time. They fully carried out the task entrusted to them, managing to create a handbook that, while not sacrificing the goodness of care, was economically sustainable and brought about a significant renewal and simplification of therapies.
